VODOU is not a religion, but a spiritual practice based on ancestral tradition and culture. The practices focus is on the traditions left by our ancestors and those that came before us. Vodou is the empowerment and harmonization of nature, the four elements of the universe, the ancestors, and the spiritual cosmic mediums. The most important thing in vodou is your ancestors... Vodou encumbers all forces of nature and the universe in a conglomerate practice.
in essence, Vodou is an oral tradition practiced by extended families that inherit familial spirits, along with the necessary devotional practices, from their elders. In the cities, local hierarchies of priestesses or priests (manbo and oungan), “children of the spirits” (ounsi), and ritual drummers (ountògi) compromise more formal “societies” or “congregations” (sosyete). In these congregations, knowledge is passed on through a ritual of initiation (kanzo) in which the body becomes the site of spiritual transformation.
In vodou the world death does not exist, the term used is jambe. Vodou is metaphysic, mathematical and astrological. The loas are the intermediaries, the supreme mystere that exists between the worlds and humanity. In vodou we have several forms of spirits, we have the loas, the gad, the pwen and many other myseres that exist. They are served, they are distinct beings with their own special likes and dislikes, distinct sacred rhythms, songs, dances, and special mode. Vodou encompasses an exceedingly complex practice and magic with complicated rituals and symbols developed thousands of years ago.
In vodou there is a combination of 21 rites. The rites in vodou are a conglomeration of supernatural origin and in the form of astrological & geographical origin. Vodou is essential to the knowledge of the mysteries. The vodou pantheon is composed of loa GAD, & Pwen that come from all part of Africa and with the blended culture of the Taino who resided on the land know called Haiti prior to slavery. Other tribes that consist of vodou are Nago, Yacouba, Ibos, congos, Dahomeyan, Senegalese.
A Badji is a sacred room that a vodouisant have to practice their spirituality. It is the place where the practionnor sores all that are associated and necessary to practice. Be mindful, there is difference between a badji and a perestile.

ADJEVO is a sacred room where initiation took place in vodou. It is the place where the hounfo is located. Meaning the place of the innaciated. It is the place where the reside during the initiation. It is also the place where kanzo ritual take place
A HOUNFO is a sacred room created for the purpose of hosting all the necessities to serve the loas. This location is created purposely or the initiated in vodou, it is where spiritual item such the pot tet, paket, and many other symbolistic object related to initiation in vodou is located
A POTOMITAN is a pilar founded or placed at the center of the peristil. It is made out of wood or sometime in brick. The purpose of the potomitan is to create a union between the three world that exist in vodou. In addition, it is where the loas, spirit descent during a ceremonie.
A Jouk Loa is the reposer of a law on a bitasyon. it is the place where the children on the bitasyon need to communicate with the loa go. A jock for a loa can be a tree, a river, or a ferry.
A Lakou is a way of life in Vodou. Our ancestors used to live in the lake system where they live as brother and sisters. For the most this systematic form of spiritual living included the regular family member as well those who were invited to also be part of the family under the Principe of the lakou. The lake in phisical essence consist of a badge where the Vodou ceremony used to take place
A Bitasyion is a family estate left by the ancestors to be inherited from generation to generation. It is in the bitasyion that energy of all the loas resided. Its is the place where they buried the enbilicord of children born from the family lineage.. Be mindful a bitasyon is different from a lake.
A Demebre for the most is abondoned lake. This lake at one point used to be the sacred location where all Vodou ceremonies used to take. However it is almost non existence.
A Nich loa ia a sacred place created so during ceremonies food cook drink and dessert created for the loa are either placed or buried
